Reporting a Crime

In case of an emergency, always dial 9-1-1

Remember, even if your phone has no service does not mean a 9-1-1 call won’t go through. Your cell phone will connect to any surrounding towers to place an emergency call - even if you do not pay for a provider. If there is not enough service to place a call, the Golden Valley and Wheatland County Dispatch Center offers Text-to-9-1-1 which allows you to text a Dispatcher your emergency. This service does require a cell phone provider. Additionally, if your phone connects to the internet you can place a call through your wifi.

The most important information you can give the Dispatcher is where you are. If dispatch knows where you are and nothing else, they will still be able to send responders to help.

Calling from a home phone in most cases will automatically provide the Dispatcher of your home address. Calling from a cell phone will initially give the Dispatcher the location of the phone tower, and the longer you stay on the line the closer the Dispatcher will be able to narrow down your GPS location through the phone towers. Even if you are unable to speak, stay on the line.

We understand that many community members have the work numbers for our law enforcement officers, but the officers are not working every day. If you are trying to make a report, call Dispatch. Dispatch will relay the information to the on-shift officer who will respond. Calling an officer directly may delay response by several days.
Dispatch is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. The Golden Valley and Wheatland County Dispatch Center is located at 203 A Ave NW in Harlowton, Montana.
